KING COUNTY, WA — A man died early Monday morning after a single-vehicle collision off State Route 18 in southeast Federal Way, according to KIRO 7 Seattle.

The Washington State Patrol said troopers responded to the scene on the westbound lanes before Weyerhauser Way South at around 2:23 a.m.

An early investigation indicates the man was driving westbound when he lost control of his vehicle, causing it to run off the right side of the roadway. The car collided with a tree and traveled over and down an embankment before coming to a stop.

The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

According to the WSP, slick road conditions may have contributed to the fatal crash, but troopers also suspect the driver was impaired at the time.

An investigation remains ongoing.
