KING COUNTY, WA — A 56-year-old Puyallup man died Wednesday morning after a single-vehicle crash off Interstate 405 in Renton’s May Creek area, reports the Washington State Patrol.

The fatal collision occurred on the southbound lanes just north of North 44th Street, shortly after 7:30 a.m.

According to authorities, the man was driving a 2016 Mini Cooper southbound when, for reasons still being investigated, the car drifted off the roadway before striking the Jersey barrier and a highway exit sign. Shortly after, the vehicle came to rest in the right-side ditch.

Medics rushed the driver to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

No other injuries were reported and no other vehicles appear to have been involved.

The Mini Cooper was totaled in the accident and was towed from the scene.
