SNOHOMISH COUNTY, WA — A 20-year-old woman died last Saturday morning after a two-vehicle collision involving a fallen mattress on Interstate 5 near Mountlake Terrace, reports King 5.

Washington State Patrol said the fatal wreck occurred on the northbound lanes near 220th Street at approximately 6:30 a.m.

An early investigation indicates the mattress had fallen off an unknown truck and onto the roadway before it was hit by the victim’s vehicle, causing the car swerve into the path of a semi-truck. The semi then slammed into the driver’s side of the victim’s car.

Authorities said the young woman was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A section of the northbound interstate was shut down for several hours during the emergency response.

An investigation by WSP remains ongoing. Authorities are actively search for the unknown truck, believed to be a small and dark-colored pickup of an older model, equipped with wood-paneled bed racks holding household items.
