PIERCE COUNTY, WA — A semi-truck driver has been formally charged after a multi-vehicle wreck Friday morning that claimed the life of a 54-year-old man and injured six others on Interstate 5 in Tacoma, according to KIRO 7 News.
The fatal collision occurred on the northbound lanes near South 38th Street on March 18, shortly before 8:00 a.m.
Details on the events leading up to the crash remain limited, but according to the Washington State Patrol, two semi-trucks and six passenger vehicles were involved.
Authorities said a Lakewood man died from his injuries at the scene.
Three people suffered serious injuries and were transported to Tacoma General hospital, while a fourth patient was taken to Madigan Army Medical Center. Two others were treated by medics at the scene and were released.
The semi driver has since been charged with “one count of vehicular homicide, four counts of vehicular assault, and driving under the influence.”
