KING COUNTY, WA — A 33-year-old man was hospitalized Thursday evening after a two-vehicle accident that injured another person on Interstate 5 near south Federal Way, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The crash occurred on the southbound interstate near State Route 161 at round 6:24 p.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates a white 2006 Chevy SIlverado pickup truck was heading southbound in lane #2 when its front bumper hit the right-side fender of a 2006 Kia Spectras hatchback in lane #3. The impact of the crash caused the Kia to collide with the roadway’s left-side guardrail before coming to rest in the HOV lane.

The Chevy also lost control and was sent into the right-side guardrail and down an embankment.

WSP said the driver of the Chevy, who was ejected in the crash, was transported to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center with undisclosed injuries.

The driver of the Kia was also reported injured, but was able to drive away from the scene.

No further updates have been released at this time, but the WSP indicated on their traffic incident report that “excessive speed” factored into the accident.
