KITTITAS COUNTY, WA — Two young children and two young adults were hospitalized Sunday morning after a single-vehicle accident on an Interstate 82 exit ramp near Ellensburg, reports Tri-City Herald.
The collision occurred on the ramp connecting I-82 to I-90 westbound at around 7:00 a.m.
According to Washington State Patrol, a 21-year-old woman was driving a Honda Passport on the ramp when she failed to negotiate a curve, causing the SUV to run off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle then flipped through a Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) fence before coming to rest in a nearby field.
Two child passengers, a 2-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy, were transported to Kittitas Valley Healthcare in Ellensburg with undisclosed injuries. WSP said the boy was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The female driver and a 21-year-old male passenger were also both taken to the Ellensburg hospital, but the young man was later airlifted to Harborview Medical Center. Authorities noted he was also not wearing a seat belt.
An investigation remains underway, but WSP said they suspect impairment contributed to the wreck.
