CLALLAM COUNTY, WA — A 24-year-old man was hospitalized Monday evening after crashing his Tesla into the side of a residence in east Port Angeles, according to Peninsula Daily News.
Clallam County Fire District 2 officials said the accident occurred in the 800 block of Monroe Road shortly before 9:40 p.m.
An early investigation indicates the man was behind the wheel of a red Tesla Model 3 heading into the intersection with Round Tree Road when he slammed into the side corner of the home.
First responders arrived to find the vehicle protruding halfway out of the bottom of the home.
The victim had to be mechanically extricated from the wreckage before he was airlifted to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center. As of late Tuesday evening, he remained in critical but stable condition.
Two people were said to have been in the house at the time of the crash, but no other injuries were reported.
An investigation remains ongoing, authorities believe DUI factored into the crash, as an alcohol container was recovered in the vehicle.
Crews stayed at the scene after the crash and worked to reinforce the stability of the home, which sustained significant property damage.
