JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, WA — One person was hospitalized Thursday afternoon after their vehicle crashed into a ditch off Interstate 5 near Joint Base Lewis-McChord, according to Washington State Patrol.
The accident happened on the southbound lanes just south of the main gate of the base, near southeast Lakewood. It was first reported by Trooper Robert Reyer at 12:30 p.m.
It was not immediately clear what led up to the collision, but authorities said the driver suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to an area hospital.
The right two lanes were shut down as WSP troopers, medics, and Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) crews responded to the scene.
