PIERCE COUNTY, WA — A 37-year-old man was seriously injured Monday afternoon when his vehicle crashed down an embankment off State Route 7 near Eatonville, according to King 5.

Washington State Patrol said the accident occurred along the northbound lanes near Peterson Road East shortly before 5:00 p.m.

An early investigation shows the man was driving northbound when his car veered off the roadway and slid about 40 feet down an embankment.

Responding crews worked for several hours to rescue the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle from a high angle.

Authorities said the driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. He was transported by airlift to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center where the severity of his condition remains undisclosed.

No further information has been released.
