News: One hurt in crash involving wrong-way driver on SR-167 near Sumner

PIERCE COUNTY, WA — One person was hospitalized early Monday after a two-vehicle accident involving a wrong-way driver on State Route 167 near Sumner, reports KIRO 7.

The collision occurred on the southbound lanes approaching 24th Street East and was first reported by Washington State Patrol at 2:42 a.m.

Few details have been shared at this time, but authorities said one driver was traveling in the wrong direction and collided head-on with another vehicle.

The driver of the victim vehicle suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.

Authorities said the wrong-way driver was arrested for suspicion of DUI. It was unclear whether or not they were injured.

Both southbound lanes were shut down during an investigation.
