KING COUNTY, WA — A 55-year-old man was hospitalized Friday morning after being struck by a car while riding a moped in Shoreline’s Evergreen neighborhood, according to Washington State Patrol.

The accident occurred at the intersection of State Route 523 and 1st Avenue Northeast at approximately 6:45 a.m.

According to WSP, an unknown vehicle was heading northbound on 1st Avenue Northeast at the same time a 2009 Honda CHF50 moped was going southbound on the road. At one point, the unknown vehicle made a left turn at the intersection and hit the victim, sending him off the bike, which came to rest in the far left lane of traffic.

Authorities said the driver of the unknown vehicle fled the scene shortly after.

The victim was rushed to Northwest Hospital with undisclosed injuries. As of this writing, the severity of his condition has not been released, but WSP indicated he was wearing a U.S. Department of Transportation-compliant helmet at the time of the crash.
