PIERCE COUNTY, WA — A vehicle collision was reported Tuesday morning on State Route 509 near the cable-stayed bridge in downtown Tacoma, according to Washington State Department of Transportation.
The crash occurred on the southbound lanes approaching the East 21st Street Bridge and was first reported by WSDOT at 10:41 a.m.
It was not immediately clear what led up to the crash, but the left lane became blocked.
Collision on SR 509 SB, at MP 0.06 near the Cable-Stay Bridge. Beginning at 10:41 am on Jan. 11, 2022 until further notice. The left lane is blocked.

A few minutes later, the scene was cleared from the main traffic lanes.
