GRAYS HARBOR COUNTY, WA — An 8-year-old girl died late Thursday after a two-vehicle accident involving a suspected DUI driver on U.S. Highway 12 near Oakville, according to KOMO News.

Washington State Patrol said the crash occurred on the westbound highway near Pearson Road at around 8:35 p.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates a 31-year-old woman was driving a car westbound when she veered past the roadway’s centerline. Moments later, her car collided with an oncoming truck driven by a 55-year-old man.

Both vehicles were pushed to the shoulder, but the woman’s car continued sliding until it rolled upside down into a watery ditch.

Authorities said both drivers and the child, who was the woman’s sole passenger, were all rushed to nearby hospitals. The girl was later pronounced deceased at Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital.

The event left the highway closed for several hours.

Washington State Patrol said they suspected the woman of DUI, but as of this writing, no charges have been filed.
