PIERCE COUNTY, WA — A 4-year-old girl was hospitalized Thursday evening after a single-vehicle collision involving a suspected DUI driver near downtown Tacoma, according to KOMO News.
Tacoma Police responded to the scene at Tacoma Avenue South near Wright Avenue, at approximately 6:45 p.m.
Authorities said the driver, a 19-year-old man, hit a retaining wall, seriously injuring the girl, who was sitting in the front seat. The victim was not in a car seat or wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and suffered life-threatening injuries. She was rushed to Mary Bridge Hospital where her condition remains undisclosed.
An investigation later found the teen driver was impaired at the time of the crash. He was taken to a local hospital and may soon be facing charges.
