SNOHOMISH COUNTY, WA — A 42-year-old man was seriously hurt early Saturday in a two-vehicle accident involving a suspected drunken driver on Interstate 5 near central Everett, according to HeraldNet.

The collision occurred on the southbound lanes just north of East Marine View Drive at around 2:00 a.m.

A preliminary investigation by Washington State Patrol shows a red 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer hit the center divider and came to rest in the freeway. Shortly after, it was struck by a gray 2020 Volkswagen going southbound, which rolled upside down in the impact.

The driver of the Mitsubishi was transported to Everett’s Providence Regional Medical Center with a fractured pelvis and ruptured spleen, according to WSP.

Authorities said the Volkswagen driver, a 28-year-old man, consented to a field sobriety test after being displaying signs of intoxication. He was later taken into custody and booked into the Snohomish County Jail pending an investigation into vehicular assault.
