GRAYS HARBOR COUNTY, WA — A 49-year-old man died early Saturday after being struck by a vehicle while outside his car on U.S. Highway 12 near Satsop, reports The Olympian.

Washington State Patrol said the crash occurred on the eastbound lanes of the highway at around 12:50 a.m.

The man had pulled over onto the right shoulder along the eastbound lanes as his car became disabled. He was standing near his vehicle when another eastbound driver veered to the right of the road and struck him.

Authorities confirmed the victim died from his injuries.

The victim’s sole passenger, a 42-year-old woman, was not injured.

It is unclear what caused the other driver, a 32-year-old man, to drive off the roadway.

The crash was under investigation by the State Patrol.
