KING COUNTY, WA — A wrong-way driver was killed early Wednesday after a collision involving three semi-trucks on State Route 18 in Auburn, reports KIRO 7 News.

The fatal crash happened on the westbound lanes of the highway near the C Street Southwest intersection at around 2:00 a.m.

Washington State Patrol said three semi-trucks and a car were involved in the accident. The wrong-way driver was going westbound in the eastbound lanes when he crashed his car into two semi-trucks. One of the semi-trucks swerved to avoid the car and struck the roadway’s median, which spewed debris onto the travel lanes.

Authorities said the wrong-way driver was ejected from his car and died at the scene.

No other injuries have been reported.

SR-18 was shut down in both directions as crews worked to clear vehicle wreckage and spilled diesel fuel, as well as replace the damaged barrier.

By 10:00 a.m., all lanes had reopened to traffic.
