ISLAND COUNTY, WA — A 40-year-old woman was seriously injured Sunday afternoon in a single-vehicle collision in Coupeville, according to Whidbey News-Times.
The accident happened on Race Road at Shangri-La Circle shortly before 4:23 p.m.
The woman’s 20-year-old daughter, who was a passenger in the involved Ford WIndstar minivan, said her mother had been driving at the speed limit prior to the crash. The vehicle suddenly traveled down a small hill and slammed into a tree.
Central Whidbey Island Fire and Rescue crews arrived on scene where they worked to extricate the driver from the wreck.
The 40-year-old woman was then airlifted to Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett with a broken leg and a few cracked ribs.
Her daughter sustained only minor injuries, including cuts across her chest from the seatbelt.
No other information has been released regarding the cause of the crash.
