News: Two hospitalized after crash on Hood Canal Bridge near Poulsbo

KITSAP COUNTY, WA — Two people were injured Saturday afternoon after a head-on collision on Hood Canal Bridge near Poulsbo, according to The Leader.

The crash happened on a span of State Route 104 near the middle of the bridge shortly after 3:00 p.m.

A Seattle woman was driving a 1995 Jeep Wrangler east on the highway when she lost control of the vehicle and crossed the centerline. Moments later, she collided head-on with a 2020 Hyundai Elantra driven by a 63-year-old Hansville man, causing the Jeep to overturn.

A 54-year-old male passenger in the Jeep, along with the driver of the Hyundai, both sustained injuries in the accident and were transported to St. Michael Medical Center-Silverdale.

No other injuries were reported.

Washington State Patrol determined the woman was driving too fast for the weather conditions as the Jeep went from traveling over a grated roadway to pavement.

Both vehicles were totaled as a result of the crash and were towed from the scene.

Washington State Patrol shut down the bridge for more than an hour as authorities responded.
