GRAYS HARBOR COUNTY, WA — A 25-year-old Seattle resident was hospitalized Saturday afternoon after their car was struck by another driver on state Route 109 near Aberdeen, according to The Olympian.

The crash happened on a stretch of SR-109 between Aberdeen and Ocean Shores at around 1:30 p.m.

According to Washington State Patrol, a 53-year-old Elma man was southbound on the highway when he fell asleep at the wheel, drifted off the road, and overcorrected. He struck a dirt embankment before returning to the roadway and colliding head-on with the vehicle of the Seattle resident, who was heading north.

The Seattle resident was transported by airlift to Harborview Medical Center with undisclosed injuries.

The road was shut down for multiple hours as crews worked to clear the scene.

Authorities say the Elma man may be charged with second-degree negligent driving.
