SNOHOMISH COUNTY, WA — A man in his 20s was fatally injured early Monday after his motorcycle struck a car on the Snohomish River Bridge in Everett, according to KIRO 7 News.

The collision occurred on the northbound lanes of State Route 529 at the bridge shortly before 1:30 a.m.

Everett police and firefighters responded to the scene where they found the two involved vehicles and soon discovered the motorcyclist had been thrown over the bridge and into the river.

Authorities sent out two marine operations boats to locate and rescue the rider. Firefighters administered CPR to the victim onboard a boat before transporting him to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett.

Authorities said the rider later died at the hospital.

No other injuries were reported.

An investigation found the victim had been riding at high speed when he rear-ended a Nissan Xterra and was ejected over the guardrail.

Police have not released information on any other possible factors in the accident.

An investigation remains in progress.
