SEATTLE, WA — A 55-year-old man died late Thursday night after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Seattle’s Wallingford neighborhood, according to Seattle Police Department.

The crash happened near the intersection of North 46th Street and Aurora Avenue North shortly before midnight.

Motorists on Aurora Avenue North alerted authorities after witnessing a pickup truck speeding northbound and seeing a male pedestrian down on the roadway.

Seattle Fire crews arrived on scene and later pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

The truck driver continued driving northbound on Aurora Avenue North with no lights on. After the driver refused to yield to an officer’s traffic stop, police began to pursue him as he entered Interstate 5 southbound. Washington State Patrol troopers later overtook the suspect near South 272nd Street in Federal Way and stopped the truck.

The driver, a 38-year-old man, was arrested and booked into King County Jail for vehicular homicide. Authorities said he was also going to be processed for DUI.

An investigation remained underway as of Friday.
