News: Woman suffers apparent episode, crashes car into Bellingham school building

WHATCOM COUNTY, WA — A 20-year-old Lynden woman appeared to suffer a medical episode Thursday morning and crashed a car into Meridian High School near the Laurel area in Bellingham, according to KIRO 7 News.

The incident took place near on West Laurel Road at approximately 7:15 a.m.

Just fifteen minutes before the crash, a request was dispatched for a wellness check on the young woman, who had driven away from a relative’s home and toward the school in the causing vehicle.

Deputies said the woman crashed the car through the front doors of the school and into a wall.

Some time passed before authorities were able to detain the woman, who had gone on to vandalize a classroom.

The at-fault driver sustained minor cuts from broken glass and received treatment at the scene. She was later placed under arrest for suspicion of first-degree burglary and first-degree malicious mischief.

Property damages were roughly estimated to be at around $100,000.

No other injuries were reported.
