SEATTLE, WA — Two pedestrians were killed Friday evening after being struck by a light rail train in Seattle, according to Shoreline Area News.

The accident occurred in Seattle’s Columbia City neighborhood at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Way South and South Alaska Street at around 6:00 p.m.

Seattle Police said the couple, a woman and a man, were using the intersection’s crosswalk against the “Don’t Walk” signal when they were hit and pinned by an electric light rail car.

Crews with Seattle Fire Department worked to extricate the pedestrians from under the light rail car.

The woman was pronounced dead at the site of the crash. Her male partner was transported to Harborview Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Detectives with the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad are investigating the incident.
