THURSTON COUNTY, WA — Two people died Thursday evening after a collision involving two vehicles along Interstate 5 southbound near Chehalis, according to Trooper Robert Reyer with Washington State Patrol for District 2.

The crash happened along a ramp at the I-5 and state Route 12 merge and was first reported by Trooper Reyer at 9:37 a.m.

An SUV was stopped on the ramp’s shoulder and two of its passengers were outside the vehicle assessing bicycles when a sedan drove onto the shoulder and struck the SUV, along with one of the SUV passengers outside.

Both the struck passenger and the causing driving were killed on scene. Three other occupants were taken to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

An investigation into the crash remains in progress.
