TACOMA, WA — At least one person was fatally injured Friday evening after a vehicle accident on state Route 99 in east Tacoma near Fife, according to Washington State Department of Transportation.

Washington State Patrol troopers, maintenance crews and other emergency responders arrived on scene at a stretch of SR-99 near Johnson Road. WSDOT first reported the incident at 5:12 p.m.
Authorities did not confirm the number of people killed or hurt. No information has been released on what led to the crash.
The incident caused delays in the area as only one lane in each direction was allowed to remain open on SR-99.
Interstate 5 southbound, which saw much diverted traffic from the crash area, was also impacted by delays compounded by the peak Friday afternoon commute.
At 6:33 p.m., the crash was reported cleared.
