JEFFERSON COUNTY, WA — An officer with the Washington State Patrol was hospitalized after being hit by a stolen pickup truck on Tuesday, according to King 5.

55-year-old Officer Alfred Alderson was conducting a traffic stop from inside his marked patrol truck when he was hit by the stolen Ford F350 truck, said WSP Trooper Chelsea Hodgson.

The incident took place in the southbound lanes a bit north of the SR 104 interchange.

The crash’s impact sent Officer Alderson’s patrol vehicle slamming against a semi-truck he had been inspecting. Neither Alderson nor the at-fault driver were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision.

Both were both airlifted to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.

Prior to the crash, the driver of the stolen truck was seen to be driving erratically along US 101. The driver is suspected to be have been impaired at the time and is now under custody for suspicion of vehicular assault.

It has since been revealed that the at-fault driver is also wanted for arson, according to the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office.
