SOUTH KING COUNTY, Wa — A woman whose car was hit by a box truck on Interstate 5 in South King County on Thursday morning is in critical condition, according to KOMO News.

Troopers and firefighters rushed to the site of the crash just south of State Route 516 interchange at about 6 a.m. today. The woman was discovered with serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Early reports say that the woman’s car was parked on the shoulder when the box truck struck it. The truck driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel, according to Trooper Rick Johnson with the State Patrol.

WSP said that the incident caused an hours-long traffic backup as two right lanes were blocked. All lanes have since been cleared to open.
