News Update: Driver who fatally struck stranded motorist on I-5 charged

TACOMA, WA – The woman who fatally struck a stranded motorist as he changed his tire on the I-5 shoulder on Monday has been charged with vehicular homicide.

The deadly crash occurred on I-5 northbound near S 38th Street at about 9:20 a.m. on Monday, May 10. 78-year-old Kyang Park was changing a tire on his vehicle in the interstate’s shoulder when he was struck by a passing vehicle.

KIRO 7 reports that the 29-year-old woman responsible for the crash pulled to the side of the road and called 911. She admitted to police that she was checking Facebook on her cellphone at the time of the collision. She has no previous criminal record, and has been released from jail prior to trial.
