AUBURN, WA – According to the Kent Reporter, two people were hospitalized following a head-on crash on State Route 18 in Auburn on Thursday morning.

The preliminary report stated the accident occurred around 2:33 a.m. in the westbound lanes, just west of Southeast 304th Street. A 1999 Lexus ES was driving the wrong way when it struck a westbound 2009 Toyota Camry head-on.

The impact sent the Lexus spinning onto the metal guardrail in the left shoulder. The Camry also rotated and ended up in the right shoulder. Both vehicles were totaled.

The Lexus’s driver, a 30-year old Tacoma woman, and the Camry’s driver, a 25-year-old Kent man, both suffered critical injuries and were rushed to Harborview Medical Center.

Troopers with the Washington State Patrol closed the roadway for more than 4 hours.

At this time, it is unclear if drugs or alcohol played a role. There are multiple charges pending against the Tacoma woman.
