RENTON, WA – According to the Renton PD’s official Twitter page, officers responded to a multi-vehicle crash causing at least one fatality on Benson Drive South on Friday night.
Officers first tweeted about the incident at 8:13 p.m., providing an update shortly after with details regarding the crash.
The accident involved at least three vehicles and occurred at the intersection of Benson Dr S and South 27th Place, causing a vehicle fire that was extinguished by firefighters. It was confirmed that one motorist passed away and two others were hospitalized with serious injuries following the collision.
Can confirm one fatality. Fire treated involved on scene & serious injuries transported 2 hospital. @ least 3 veh’s involved. Investigations will be ongoing 4 awhile. Benson Rd S/S 27th Pl closed NB & SB. Find alternate routes, unknown when investigation will be completed/sh

Renton PD later provided pictures of the scene, showing two totaled cars and debris blocking the roadway. Both directions of Benson Drive South were expected to be closed for multiple hours.
