FEDERAL WAY, WA – Investigators believe the previously reported fatal single-vehicle crash on I-5 in Federal Way last Wednesday was caused by a medical emergency, reports KOMO News.

The crash was initially reported in the northbound lanes of Interstate 5, just south of South 320th Street, around 6:15 p.m.

According to authorities, the 38-year-old driver lost control of his vehicle due to a medical emergency, causing his vehicle to leave the roadway and crash into a tree before rolling over.

The man was not secured by a seat belt and was declared deceased at the scene.

The update also included details of a separate crash nearby around 4:45 p.m., on I-5 South near Harborview Medical Center. The accident involved multiple vehicles and forced southbound traffic to reach a near standstill until around 5:30 p.m.

No further details have been released.
