News: Kitsap sheriff’s deputy injured in head-on collision

by | Jan 6, 2021 | Accidents in the News |

SEABECK, WA – A Kitsap County sheriff’s deputy was hospitalized yesterday after his patrol vehicle was deliberately hit by a fleeing suspect, KOMO reports.

The incident began when a 50-year-old man—who was wanted on a no-bail warrant—stole a truck from his neighbor. The sheriff’s deputy responded to the scene, at which point the suspect rammed his vehicle with the stolen truck and drove away.

Authorities with the sheriff’s office and Washington State Patrol responded, pursuing the suspect through central Kitsap County. After a spike strip proved ineffective, a deputy was finally able to bring the chase to an end by executing a PIT maneuver. Police apprehended the suspect and booked him into the Kitsap County jail.

The injured deputy was transported to St. Michael’s Medical Center and has since been discharged. No other injuries have been reported.
