TACOMA, WA – Officials with the Tacoma Police Department took a man into custody on a number of charges after he collided with a church near Portland Avenue around 1 a.m. Friday.

According to KOMO, a police officer attempted to pull the suspect over for driving with a headlight out when he made an illegal U-turn on Portland Ave. near 72nd Street east in an attempt to evade the officer. The suspect then drove through a bank parking lot and a red light before crashing into a church near Park Avenue.

The 24-year-old man surrendered to police and was taken to a local hospital for a toxicology report. He was subsequently arrested for suspected DUI, reckless endangerment, and running from police.

A passenger in the suspect vehicle was uninjured in the crash.
