Cyclist hospitalized after being struck by intoxicated motorist in Tacoma

TACOMA, WA. – A bicyclist was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after being hit by a car in Tacoma.

According to The Seattle Times, the accident occurred at the intersection of North Vassault Street and North 36th Street at 6:45 p.m. on May 6th. A 47-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after hitting the cyclist, a 51-year-old man. The driver was speeding north on North Vassault Street when she swerved to avoid a car that was stopped at a crosswalk. She veered into oncoming traffic and hit the cyclist, who was heading south.

The cyclist was transported to the hospital for emergency medical treatment. North Vassault Street between North 36th and North 37th streets was closed for a period of time while police investigated the crash.
