South Seattle Crash.jpg

This morning at the intersection of South Alaska Street and Martin Luther King Way a pedestrian was killed when a car struck an SUV causing the SUV to roll onto the woman.

Medics arrived at the scene and attempted to save the woman’s life, but they were unable to revive her, and she was declared dead at the scene.

One witness stated that the traffic signals went from normal to flashing red just beofre the collision. This raises the question of who is liable for this collision and the death of the pedestrian.

The City of Seattle has a duty to maintain its roads and traffic signals in a reasonably safe condition. Was the change in the operation of the traffic light a cause of the collision?

A flashing red light is the same as a stop sign. If in fact the light was flashing red, someone, either the car or the SUV, ran the light.

It seems there is fault to go around.

Regardless of who is at fault for this preventable tragedy, our hearts go out to the pedestrian, who was just walking down the sidewalk minding her own business, and to her family.
