Drunk driver slams into police car

On Behalf of | Sep 8, 2016 | Car Accidents |

Most Washingtonians choose to drink and drive responsibly. But some slip up, often more than once. When they do, they risk the health and, indeed, lives of those who share the road with them. Consider a recent car accident in which a suspected drunk driver flew past a road block, slamming into a police car.

The accident happened during an early Friday morning. Police had previously responded to the area because of an earlier accident. As one of the officers stopped at the scene, the suspected drunk driver rammed through a road block and into the officer’s car. The force of the collision pushed the squad car over 60 feet.

Fortunately, the accident did not cause too much harm. The officer suffered only abrasions to his forehead. Meanwhile, the other officers on scene managed to dodge the effects of the collision – albeit narrowly.

But it could have been much worse. For example, had the accident happened a little later, just as the officer was exiting his vehicle, abrasions would have been the least of his concerns. Likewise, it was mere luck that none of the other officers on the scene were not struck.

Unfortunately, the dangers of drinking and driving do not appear important to the suspected drunk driver because this accident is the third time she has been arrested for DUI, including just a month ago.

Like the police on this occasion, Washingtonians injured in a car accident with someone who chose to drink and drive may benefit from discussing their situation with an experienced car-accident attorney. Doing so could be the first step towards not only holding the responsible party accountable but also to receive compensation they need and deserve to get through a difficult time.
