New Year’s Eve car accident kills two in Washington

On Behalf of | Jan 8, 2014 | Car Accidents |

Drunk drivers are a hazard to everyone on Seattle’s roadways. Yet, every year many people get behind the wheel of their car and drive drunk. When this happens, serious drunk driving accidents can occur that can leave people with serious injuries. Around the holidays, in particular, drunk driving accidents are common.

Recently in Washington, two men were killed in a car accident. Reports say that a 23-year-old man was driving erratically and at high speeds on State Road 539 on New Year’s Eve. Witnesses claim that this driver crossed the centerline of SR 539 and hit a Honda Civic. The Civic’s 20-year-old driver died as a result of the accident. The 23-year-old man also died in the crash.

The Washington State Patrol continue to investigate the incident. However, some reports say that alcohol was smelled in the 23-year-old’s car and may have contributed to the accident.

When a person is killed in a car accident, that person’s family may want to consider filing a wrongful death suit. A wrongful death suit will hold a negligent driver – including a drunk driver – financially responsible for the damage that driver has caused. This compensation can help families recover lost wages, medical costs, funeral costs and pain and suffering that they have had to endure because of the negligent driver’s reckless behavior.

If the negligent driver is also killed in the accident, a family can still file a wrongful death suit. However, the suit would be against the estate of the negligent driver, instead of that driver directly. While a wrongful death suit cannot take the pain of losing a loved one away, it can ensure that a family does not suffer unnecessary financial burdens from the loss.
