Although most car accidents are minor, with only minor injuries or even no injuries involved, the fact remains that some car accidents, truck accidents or even mass transit accidents can leave victims suffering from severe, catastrophically life-altering injuries. Traumatic brain injuries, in particular, may leave victims with no path toward returning to any semblance of a “normal” life.
Like most injuries, traumatic brain injuries – commonly referred to as “TBIs” – can be categorized based on severity. In fact, even though the word “traumatic” is right there in the name of this type of injury, there can actually be “mild” TBIs.
Mild TBIs may need to be monitored by a medical professional but, in most cases, after some rest, a person who suffers a mild TBI can eventually return to normal levels of activity.
It is the moderate and severe levels of TBIs where injured victims face vastly more complicated challenges. Those who suffer these levels of TBI are likely to need immediate medical attention, perhaps facing seizures or even ending up in a coma.
Oftentimes, surgery may be needed to address skull fractures or blood clots, among other potential issues. And, of course, after all of the possible medical treatment is rendered, these victims may face weeks, months or even years of rehabilitative treatment.
If you have suffered any level of TBI in a car accident that wasn’t your fault, you are likely watching the medical bills pile up fast.
Those concerns, along with the concerns about the potential to make a full recovery, can make the aftermath of suffering a TBI all the more difficult.
If you have a potential personal injury claim, be sure to have the facts of your case carefully evaluated.
