Common ways that cars cause motorcycle accidents

There are many different ways that people travel in the Seattle area. They may drive cars or pick-up trucks, ride busses or trains, ride-sharing, ride bicycles, ride motorcycles and use other modes of transportation. Riding motorcycles in the Seattle area can be a very enjoyable way to travel. The feeling of freedom can be exhilarating, which is why it can be so appealing. However, the same reasons it can be so appealing can also make riding them dangerous.

Riders have very little protection between themselves and the road. When they fall or are involved in motorcycle accidents they can suffer severe injuries. Motorcycles are also much smaller than most other vehicles on the road and other vehicles do not need to be travelling very fast or strike the motorcycle very hard to knock a rider off of the motorcycle. There are many ways that motorcycles can be struck by other vehicles, but some are more common than others.

• Taking left turn in front of motorcycle. This can be because the driver misjudged the speed of the motorcycle or simply do not see them because they are only looking for other cars and trucks.
• Cars changing lanes. When cars change lanes, they may check their rearview mirrors and blind spots for other vehicles, but because of the smaller size of motorcycles, drivers may not see them and hit the motorcycle.
• Rear ending. Simple fender benders that occur when cars cannot stop and hit the back of another car can seriously injured motorcyclists.
• Cars opening doors. When motorcycles are driving past parked cars, people may exit their vehicle after looking for other vehicles and may not see the motorcycle and open the door into them or cause accidents when they try to avoid the door.

There are many people who ride motorcycles in the Seattle area and unfortunately many of them are involved in motorcycle accidents as well.
