2020 has been a lethal year for Washington motorcyclists, according to statistics from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission (WTSC) and the Washington State Patrol. There have been 25 motorcyclists killed in the state. It seems the road’s lower levels of traffic are encouraging people to speed, whether in a car or on a motorcycle.
While motorcyclists need to avoid the temptation to speed on the clear roads, a fatal crash sometimes happens for reasons out of their control.
The latest motorcyclist to lose their life was in Seattle earlier this week. A car struck him.
The driver of the car had gone through a stop sign. Reports suggest he was driving while under the influence and did not stop after knocking the motorcyclist off his bike. Police caught him shortly afterward.
If reports are correct, the driver broke the law in three ways: failure to stop at a stop sign, driving while under the influence and failing to stay at the scene of an accident.
As a motorcyclist, you are always vulnerable to other drivers’ actions and will usually come off worse in any crash, no matter who causes it.
If you have a motorcycle accident with another vehicle on Seattle’s roads, seek legal advice and find out the options available to you. As a motorcyclist, you will likely have suffered injuries and be facing medical bills and possible time off work.
