Spokane ranked third dangerous city for pedestrians

While pedestrians can occupy many areas and locations, they are frequently seen on sidewalks and crosswalks. While there are designated areas that signal where it is safe to cross the road, pedestrian do not always use them. No matter where a pedestrian is walking in Seattle and other major cities across the nation though, it is important for motorists to remain attentive. Failure to do so could result in a serious accident.

Washington State, much like other states, is filled with busy roads. In addition to busy roadways, there are sidewalks with heavy pedestrian traffic. And, in these areas, there can be multiple lanes of traffic, a speed limit above 30 and large stretches where there are no crosswalks. These three factors cause some cities to be unsafe for pedestrians.

Based on current data, Spokane is one of the least safe cities in the state of Washington, especially when it comes to crossing streets. In fact, it rates third in the state based on the rate of people hit by a motor vehicle. With regards to fatal pedestrian accidents, the city was rated as third and was second for serious injuries.

When areas are not designed with the safety of pedestrians in mind, this could cause serious accidents to occur. Following a pedestrian accident, it is important to consider the factors that could contribute to it.
