A previous post here discussed how to proceed following a motorcycle accident. It is important to understand the common causes for motorcycle accidents and what dangers motorcyclists may encounter that are less likely to affect most drivers of cars and trucks on the roads.
Throughout the United States, including the Seattle, Washington, and King County area, thousands of motorcyclists take to the roads each day. Some do it for the economical transportation benefits, while others may be “weekend warriors” who hit the roads as motorcycle enthusiasts who just enjoy the thrill and intimacy between the rider, bike and the road. Whatever the reason, it is important for everyone on the roads, motorcyclists and passenger car drivers alike, to be mindful of potential dangers.
For those of us who stick to traditional motor vehicles, we may often forget that we share the roads with vehicles with a wide range of shapes and sizes. Due to their small size, motorcyclists are more difficult to see on the roads. While their maneuverability and ability to accelerate and slowdown is often a benefit, it also means that accidents could happen faster. Motorcyclists are also vulnerable to hazards on the road that often do not affect most motor vehicles, including potholes, gravel and ponding or puddles on the road.
When a motorcycle accident does occur, a motorcyclist is also vulnerable to the initial impact, as well as contact with other cars or objects off the road, such as trees, telephone poles or guardrails. If you have been involved in a motorcycle crash that has left you with serious injuries, such a head or neck injury or broken bones, you may be entitled to compensation for your injuries.
