The population of Everett continues to grow, and is now over 110,000 people making it the sixth largest community in Washington. As the population grows, the cost of housing in Everett continues to rise.
According to real estate website trulia, the median sale price for a home in Everett is $350,000. While this is considerably less than the median price in nearby Seattle, it is up eleven percent from just one year ago. Likewise, the median rent per month for an apartment in Everett has risen from around $1,850 to $2,100 per month, almost a fourteen percent increase.
The increase in the cost of housing in Everett is part of a larger trend throughout the greater Puget Sound area. There are various opinions regarding what is driving up housing prices in our region. Most simply, the demand for housing is outpacing the supply. Perhaps that is a result of taxes, fees and regulations on builders and developers. Perhaps the shortage of housing is a result of Washington’s Growth Management Act. Perhaps zoning requirements are limiting the availability of reasonably priced housing. Whatever the cause, it is getting harder to find affordable housing in Everett, as it is throughout Snohomish County and the rest of our region.
According to Neighborhood Scout, the most expensive neighborhoods in Everett are:
· Darlington/Edgewater
· W. Mukilteo Blvd/Olympic Blvd
· Lowell Larimer Rd/56th Ave SE
· Seattle Hill/Larimers Corner
· Silver Firs
