Motorcyclist struck and injured by driver who failed to yield

Motorists understand the importance of remaining attentive while traveling on the roadway. Despite this, some drivers fail to uphold this duty. Distractions often cause a driver to remove his or her eyes from the road. Furthermore, negligent acts such as speeding, texting and failing to follow traffic signs and signals could create dangers. A negligent driver could easily cause a collision and leave an unsuspecting driver or passenger with serious injuries.

The Washington State Patrol was recently dispatched to a crash that involved a motorcyclist and another motorist. The accident occurred on Bond Road during the afternoon hours. According to reports, the accident happened when the motorist that was traveling east on Sawdust Hill Road attempted to turn left onto Bond Road.

The driver failed to yield and struck the motorcyclist during the left turn. Emergency crews transported the 56-year-old biker to the hospital where he was listed in critical condition. The accident remains under investigation, but authorities cited the driver for failure to yield and driving without insurance. In addition to facing traffic violations and possible criminal penalties, the driver could also endure civil liabilities.

An injured motorcyclist in a case like this could file a personal injury claim against the driver at fault. This could provide him or her with compensation to cover expenses such as medical bills, rehabilitation, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
