Washington state drivers often encounter times where there is heavier traffic. During rush hour, drivers are often stuck moving slowly on a major roadway. Moreover, the distance between their vehicle and the one ahead of them is not large. Following too closely too another vehicle, even at slow speeds, can be risky. This creates dangers for several drivers, and if a collision occurs, a chain-reaction accident could occur.
Authorities recently responded to a multi-vehicle crash that occurred near the Washington-Idaho border. The accident happened on Highway 195 around 6 p.m. and included four vehicles. According to a Washington State Trooper, the accident occurred when a vehicle slowed down to make a left turn. The van behind this vehicle saw this, slowed down and began to maneuver into the right shoulder.
The pickup truck traveling behind the van was unable to stop in time and side swiped the van ahead of them. Moreover, that vehicle struck the vehicle attempting to make a left turn and pushed it across the centerline and off of the road.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene of the accident and transported four people to the hospital for treatment. Those injured did include some children but all injuries were listed as non-life threatening. Investigation is still ongoing and police officers believe that alcohol was not a factor. Officers did note that this incident does show the importance of watching distance between vehicles.
No drivers have been cited at this time, but following investigation, authorities should be able to establish cause and assign liability. The driver at fault could face traffic violations and civil suits. An injured party could file a personal injury claim. Compensation for the injuries and damages incurred could be gained from the suit.
When a negligent driver causes an automobile collision, it is important that those involved understand what steps they can take to alleviate any expenses and damages associated with the incident. An accident could seriously impact the individual as well as their family members, so being knowledgeable about their situation and options is very beneficial.
