The Washington State patrol believes drunk driving may have been a factor in a chain reaction crash that involved three cars and a semi-truck in South Seattle Monday. Five people were injured in the crash that took place just after 11 p.m. on Interstate 5.
Although authorities are still investigating the exact cause of the accident, one woman was arrested following the car accident on suspicion of DUI.
The chain reaction accident began when a Mitsubishi crashed into a Toyota, just south of Interstate 90 near Holgate Street. The Mitsubishi went on crash into a Subaru, and it eventually came to a stop underneath a semi-truck.
The driver of the Subaru, a Spanaway, Washington, woman, was arrested. She may face DUI charges.
The Toyota driver and three of his or her passengers were injured; one of them suffered a broken hip. The driver of the Mitsubishi, a Tukwila, Washington, man, sustained a head injury and a cut. All of the injured parties were transported from the scene of the accident to a hospital.
It remains unclear at this time whether the woman who may have been drinking and driving caused this car accident. Often, in chain reaction crashes more than one driver are proven to have been negligent, and thus multiple parties may hold some responsibility for the car accident. Those who were injured may wish to pursue a personal injury claim against any negligent party or parties in order to receive compensation for their medical expenses and pain and suffering, among any other damages related to this incident.
