Many Seattle residents are more than aware of the congestion problems down around the Alaska Way Viaduct. During its closing, one resident decided to do his part by jogging to work instead of driving. He ended up being hit by a semi-truck and suffered serious injuries as a result.
The incident happened Oct. 24 just after 8 a.m. when the man was struck by the truck on the Lower Spokane Street Bridge. The West Seattle man suffered numerous injuries, including a broken back, arm, shoulder and fractured skull. One of his lungs was collapsed as well. He was treated at Harborview Medical Center’s intensive care unit. A complete police report has not been released, so some details remain unclear.
The people of Seattle have a long history of walking, jogging or riding their bicycles from place to place. These individuals expect a certain level of safety as they use the public roadways. In fact, bicyclists have the same rights as motorists in this city. So, when a painful incident such as this occurs, victims and their families want to know what happened and if anyone is to be held accountable.
Persons who are injured by another may discover that they are entitled to damages for lost wages, physical pain and suffering, and even property damage. It is likely the victim in this case has the right to monetary remuneration as a form of relief from his injuries.
