The American Transportation Institute has named the top 100 traffic bottlenecks for trucks in the United States, and Snohomish County has two of them. The study identifies the interchanges at I-5 and I-405 in Lynnwood and I-5 at U.S. 2 in Everett.

The institute reports that the average speed at the Lynnwood intersection is 49 miles per hour, but it slows to 41 miles per hour during peak traffic. The Everett intersection averages 49 miles per hour and dips to 42 miles per hour during peak traffic.

In total, nine of the worst bottlenecks in the country are in Washington. Eight of those are in the Puget Sound area. The good news is that these bottlenecks are the result of amazing economic and population growth in our region over the past few years. The bad news is that our governments are doing nothing to increase the capacity of our roads, meaning this problem is only likely to get worse over time.

Washington’s economy is dependent on trucks. Over 80 percent of our communities rely exclusively on trucks to deliver their goods. these bottlenecks also create hazardous conditions for drivers of cars.

If you are involved in a car accident in Lynnwood, Everett, or anywhere in the State of Washington, make sure you call an experienced personal injury attorney to discuss your claim.
