Riding without insurance is dangerous

motorcycle crash.jpgLast week I met a young man and his family in Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Harborview is the only Level 1 adult and pediatric trauma and burn center in Washington, and also serves the States of Alaska, Idaho, and Montana. All the serious injuries in the Northwest end up at Harborview.

Suspected car involved in fatal accident burns in Seattle

Washington State's highways are dangerous places. With a number of large, heavy objects moving along at high speeds, the scene is set for tragedy to strike at any second. While cars crashing into each other is bad enough, the danger is even higher when a pedestrian is involved. As most highways are not meant for pedestrians, they lack sidewalks and other features that tend to lend themselves to keeping people safe while on foot. When an emergency happens and one is forced to walk along a highway, tragic consequences can result.

The Winds of Change

These are exciting times for the Law Offices of Matthew Dubin. In the last two months, we have opened a second office in Everett, and we've hired two new attorneys. The goal remains to provide the highest level of service and advocacy for all of our injured clients.

Man injured in collision with METRO bus on Rainier Avenue South

Thumbnail image for King County Metro.jpgYesterday I blogged about the issues and concerns specific to collisions involving public transit busses, particularly King County METRO busses. Little did I know that as I was typing that blog, a man was being cut from his car and transported to Harborview Medical Center after a collision with a METRO bus at the intersection of Rainier Avenue South and South Brandon Street. For more information about the crash, read the article here.

It's like getting hit by a bus

King County Metro.jpgWe've all heard of King County METRO. It Is the government agency that operates the public bus service in King County. I've represented people injured in all kinds of claims involving King County METRO busses. I've represented pedestrians hit by busses, car drivers and passengers injured when their vehicle was hit by a bus, and bus passengers injured when the bus is involved in a collision. Sometimes those collisions are the bus driver's fault. Other times they are the fault of the person driving a car. In every case, there is a specific procedure you or your lawyer need to follow to make sure the claim is handled properly.

How many pedestrian accidents occur in Seattle?

A few weeks ago, we took a look at the Center for Disease Control's (CDC's) statistics for pedestrian accidents nationwide. While those numbers showed that over 4,500 people were killed in the U.S. in pedestrian accidents in 2013, what does this mean for us here in Seattle? Luckily, we can take a look at some statistics compiled by the city's department of transportation (DOT), and see how dangerous it is to walk around Seattle now that the weather is starting to get better.

Matt Dubin's Book Goes to Second Printing

Thumbnail image for new book 2.jpgIt has been my professional mission to educate consumers on the car insurance claims process. It is truly disturbing to me how many injured people walk into my office knowing nothing about their rights, their insurance coverage, or how to deal with an insurance company. For years I was limited to educating my clients on the process. Finally in 2015 I published my book, "Maximizing Your Injury Claim: Simple Steps to Protect Your Family After an Accident." This was intended to be a compassionate guide to help people understand car insurance and the injury claims process in order to protect themselves and their families.

Ownership of bus in Seattle bus accident may matter

This blog has previously touched on the term 'common carrier' and how it applies to bus accidents in Seattle. To refresh, a common carrier is any business or entity that transports goods or people from one place to another as its main business model. These entities generally owe a legal duty of care to their passengers, such as those who may be on a bus, whether it is a tour bus, a city bus, or a school bus. However, when someone is injured in a bus accident, how a victim can go about getting compensation may change depending on who owned the vehicle in question.

What is 'duty' and 'breach' in a Seattle car accident?

Last week, we touched very briefly on the fact that the legal concept of negligence is often used by parties who need to be compensated for injuries incurred in a motorcycle accident. The same is true when other motor vehicles are involved in crashes as well. When people talk about a car crash having been someone's 'fault,' what they generally are referring to is the fact that some individual acted negligently.
